(The video was uploaded by someone who bought a ECM-DS70P for five bucks, by the way). This looked great and the price was too good to be true. The one-star reviews on Amazon are most likely of knock-offs. Sony sells this item on its website for $74.99.
Sony is a popular brand name to counterfeit. A few user-provided photos at Amazon are definitely of the fake. The YouTube video gives a close look at the fake and the Real Thing. Like the $20.00 Rolex watches that are a comic cliche, this particular item is one to look out for.
Well, go to YouTube and type in "Sony ECM-DS70P fake Mic" Yep. Electronic goods are easy to copy - at least, the way they LOOK is - so I try to purchase electrical goodies directly from Amazon or the manufacturer anytime I can. I generally over-research anything I'm thinking of buying; I was was thinking of getting an external microphone for a camcorder. WAY too good.
not really awesome but still very good for recording. you can add stereo effects using software like SONY soundforge. I recommend this product for everyone who likes recording music like live performance. Bottom line is, the recording is CLEAR without any distortions. price is nice too. recording is loud and clear. Sound separation is ok.
In my use, I can definitely hear high freq. In general, this is a top-level mic, especially considering it's small size, and low cost. I have used mine with various tape and MD recorders for ~3 yrs: This is the best small mic I have ever had (been recdording stuff since 1975). I haven't done such a test yet. That means mic power is suplied by the recorder; non- PIP mic's need their own power supply, usually 9V batteries in a PS box are used. In my usual use, I find it very sensitive, not always found in these small mic's; absolutely low-noise, that is with very low signal levels, you can amplify the signal to very high levels and not hear hum, hiss, etc. All my other small mics are not as good.
And, contrary to the review by "Mark", it is VERY versatile, can be used w/any "plug-in-power" recorder. Peoples' voices sound absolutely true, using the mic.
mostly, but it would be good for birds, possibly for music. vents, the click of a door opening, outside birds, etc, with perfect clarity.
It supposedly has 100-15000 Hz response, but I bet it's much better than that. sounds like rustling paper, hissing of air cond.
(paid $65 for my 1st one) I use it for recording lectures, meetings, etc.
from the mic.
The Sony ECM-DS70P is highly regarded and works perfectly with the Zi8. You can clearly hear the stereo sound difference when recording in a 360 degree environment (like outside in a playground or other event). I bought this mic for two reasons:1. There is a notable difference in the sound when I use the Sony mic. I have also used it for voice recording and it does a nice job there as well. It is stereo not mono2. I just bought a Kodak Zi8 Digital CamcorderAlthough the sound is surprisingly good on the Zi8, it has an external Stereo mic jack.
I use it for my Kodak Zi8 pocket HD camera and it's great, so don't hesitate to get it.just make sure you get it on ebay for a lot less. I got this mic from a seller on Amazon Marketplace for about $24 including s/h. That's about 1/2 the retail price for this, but I just found out, too late, that I could have got it on ebay for as little as $5 including S/H.
